Personal Interest

My main area of interest lies within the internet areas. Since commencing the degree at Curtin University I have become more involved in some areas of content writing partly due to the criteria of the units studied and partly due to the fact that with attention to content it makes my job in web design more successful. Web design has been a passion for me for quite a few years and I am always trying to improve my skills with various forms of Web 2.0 applications and some graphic manipulation through Adobe Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop.

Many of my web design jobs have involved graphic manipulation and online tutorials were a great help. Another personal aide was helping students from other university courses with some of their studies that involved internet access and web page construction. This helped for the simply reason that it enabled me to brush up on my skills by repetition of basics that unfortunately often get left by the wayside as a student progresses. With that all said, my main interest remains with web design. The sense of accomplishment is quite substantial and the monetary rewards are often restricting, but when it the job is done and published the rewards overall come from the sense of achievement knowing that I have created something from nothing and is out there for all the world to see. Many jobs are quite simple and only require a sense of planning to get the required result. Others i have experienced stretch ones imagination and knowledge to the limits and much research is needed prior to commencing the job. These are the most rewarding to me as I know that when it is finished it is unique in either design or purpose.

Another passion I have been involved with for some years is the establishment of a personal improvement and recuperation centre. The vision we have is the centre is in a rural setting with opportunities to gain skills to aid the recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. Family members would be welcome at most times to become involved and assist with the recuperation. This centre would not be a traditional rehabilitation centre but a place where recovery would be assisted with a holistic attitude. The current system of "lock em up for 16 weeks and kick em out" does not work. This is evident with the re-attendance of the same people in the same system with the same problems. We don't by any stretch of the imagination have the silver bullet, but do care that this vision succeeds. After all it is not just the alcoholic that is effected. The entire family has to deal with the problem and often has to deal with it in a large part, alone. This type of pressure is often contributing factor in the family break up and sense of alienation felt by many. This is an ongoing project and an example of our vision has been set up at our website here.
